Hands On With the Lenovo Miix 700 and Ideapad 100S

Profound inside Lenovo's numerous declarations here at IFA, two items emerged: the Lenovo Miix 700, which resembles a Microsoft Surface yet better, and the modest Ideapad 100S portable PC.

The Best Tablet of IFA

The Miix 700 looks a considerable measure like a Surface, yet it works better. Like a Surface, it has an attractive console that additionally capacities as a case, and like the Surface, it has a kickstand on the back. However, the Miix 700 has a higher-determination screen, at 2,160 by 1,440, and also a speedier Intel Skylake Core M7 processor and a discretionary Intel RealSense raise camera for 3D checking.

There were two Miix units at the Lenovo remain, in gold and dark. The gold one was surrey, yet the dark one was quick and exact, flipping into tablet mode when I hauled it out of the console case, with sharp, itty-bitty content in the status bar of the 12-inch screen. It resembled a Surface amped up to the following level.

Presently, Microsoft might just amp the Surface up to the following level one month from now, at its enormous Windows 10 Mobile occasion. As the Miix 700 won't come to showcase until November (beginning at $699), it extremely well may go straight up against the following Surface on racks; it will enthusiasm to check whether it can keep its lead.

Windows 10 For $259!

The super-ease Ideapad 100S comes in $189 and $259 models. The 11-inch, $189 show didn't appear to be in plain view at Lenovo's corner, yet we played with the 14-inch, $259 demonstrate for some time.

The 14-inch Ideapad 100S contends with the $229 HP Stream 13 and with Chromebooks, and you can see where Lenovo cut corners. The trackpad catches are somewhat free, and execution is not marvelous. Looking in the Edge program was jerky, and I got a "hold up" cursor even while writing in WordPad. The 1,366-by-768 screen looked grainy and low-res.

The tablet had an Intel Celeron N3150 processor running at 1.6GHz, with 2GB RAM and 32GB eMMC stockpiling with just 12.7GB free. That is a slower processor, and 5GB less accessible stockpiling than we saw on the Stream 13, in spite of the fact that the Stream 13 was running Windows 8.1 and not 10.

At last, however, it ran. Like the Stream 13, the Ideapad 100S demonstrates that you can get a large searching Windows tablet for the cost of a Chromebook or one of those little 10-inch jobbies like the Asus Transformer Book T100TA.
